The pen washer is not only used to clean the oil brush, it is also used to store the brush for a short time during the painting process, the container contains turpentine, can dissolve the residual paint hanging on the container of the oil brush, the problem is that turpentine is volatile. Another use of the pen washer is to make the brush draping, the pen head hangs in the container, and the pen hair does not touch the container, and the shape of the pen head can be maintained, once the pen head is deformed, it is difficult to restore the original.

Many painters like to temporarily store their brushes in a water pan, so that the front of the pen is often peeled from water. This problem does not occur if you use a pen washer. Whether it is turpentine, or water, the brush can not be placed in the pen washer for a long time, too long turpentine will cause damage to the pen hair, and once the turpentine volatilize the brush may be useless. Although water evaporates slowly, it contains oxygen, which also hardens the paint in the pen. Once the paint has hardened on the brush, it is softened with a solvent such as banana water before being cleaned.
The basic structure of the pen washer is shown in the figure. The chassis of the upper layer is full of small holes, and cleaning fluids such as turpentine and solvent gasoline will dissolve the paint on the brush through the small holes and fall to the bottom, so that the oil brush fixed by the upper spring can always be in a clean solvent.
Pen cleaners can be homemade, and homemade pen cleaners are more useful. Use a glass bottle with a wide mouth as a solvent container, and then use a small paint can or can that can be placed in it, cut off the high part, invert it and punch a number of holes in the bottom of the cylinder with an iron nail, put the bottom of the cylinder into the glass bottle, and fix it, and inject turpentine into it. Usage: After the paintbrush containing pigment is washed in a self-made pen washer, twist the bottle cap and set aside, the pigment will gradually sink into the bottom of the bottle to ensure that the turpentine in the bottle is still clear when used next time. Because of the layer, the pigment deposited at the bottom will not flood up. Seal the bottle with a lid after each use to prevent the turpentine from volatilizing. The reason why the glass bottle is used as a container is because it can see how much pigment has been deposited, and too much must be cleaned up.
